Camping on a budget isn’t always easy.  Fortunately, with the right tools and gear you can have a very successful camping trip without emptying your wallet.  Remember to keep an eye out for good bargains.  Be sure to only buy the items that are necessary and don’t splurge for comfort.

One of the most important things to bring camping is a sleeping bag.  You do not need an expensive, waterproof, thermal sleeping bag.  You will be inside a dry tent so this is unnecessary.  Try looking around for an inexpensive bag that is large enough to fit your entire body.  You can always bring blankets from home for extra warmth.

Another essential camping gear item needed is a pocket knife.  Most people don’t think to bring one.  A good pocket knife can be your best friend out in the wild.  Try to get one with tweezers, a great blade, scissors, a file, and as many utilities as possible.

Buying an advanced fixed blade knife may be a bit more expensive than one with just a knife, but in the long run it will save you money.  This way you do not have to buy all of these items individually.  It will also save you space.

A free item that will aid greatly on your camping trip is a pack of matches.  Any store that sells cigarettes has free matches behind the counter if you ask.  You will not be stuck if you are unsuccessful in starting a fire naturally and you will be able to stay nice and warm.

Another critical item that is needed for camping is camping tents.  A small tent will due.  In fact, a smaller one will keep you warmer so it may be preferred.  If you do not want to purchase a tent to save some money, you can try making your own.

To make your own floor tent, take a large tarp and place it on the ground under a tree.  Take a second tarp and drape it over a sturdy tree branch.  Place a rock on each end of the tarp on the ground so it does not blow away.

By taking these tips into account, you will have a very successful, cheap camping trip.  If all else fails and you cannot find an inexpensive item you can always try asking a friend or renting some items for the night.  Enjoy your trip!
