Camping tent maintenance can be simple. It is important to perform certain maintenance tasks on your tent so it will last you for many years and camping trips. If you follow these easy tips, your tent is sure to stay in top notch condition. After all, you spent good money on your tent!

It’s a good idea to always check your tent after it’s been in storage, like the Sportz full size SUV truck tent. Check the zippers to be sure they are functioning properly. Make sure no bugs or critters have decided to live in your tent while it’s been packed away. Check the fabric carefully to be sure there are no rips or dry rot. Check the tent stakes for bending, rust or damage.

If you’ve purchased a brand new tent, the first thing you’ll need to do is waterproof it. Even if a camping or hiking tent claims to be waterproof, it can still leak around the seams. You can purchase a kit to seal your tent seams at camping supply or sporting good stores. Follow the instructions included in the kit and be sure to allow enough time for the waterproofing application to dry before your camping trip.

If you find that your tent is allowing water to seep in through the walls, there are special sprays available to boost the waterproofing abilities of the tent. These sprays are easy to use, be sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions for the best results.

In order to keep your tent clean and looking nice, it is important to always get rid of debris that may accumulate inside. Never allow anyone to wear shoes or boots inside your tent. Bring along a small broom and dustpan to sweep out any dirt that gets tracked inside.

If you frequently camp under trees, be sure to check for bird droppings or tree sap that may fall on your tent. If you notice that the outside of the tent is soiled, use a wet cloth to promptly wipe off the mess.  If the sap is particularly trick to remove, you can try a special remover that is formulated to remove sticky messes.

If your tent, like the Winchester Model 72 camping tent, accidentally gets a rip or tear, be sure to repair it promptly. If you don’t fix a tear right away, you may forget about it and could end up ripping more.  Also, don’t forget the check the delicate window fabric for rips. This window tends to be the easiest part of the tent to accidentally tear.

Be sure to properly store your tent when not in use. Do not pack it up unless it is thoroughly dry and clean.  Store the tent in the bag it came in. Make sure that your storage place is dry and free from pests. Do not store your tent in a location that is constantly hot. Over time, the heat will start to break down the fabric of the tent.
