When it comes to choosing a sleeping bag, shoppers have a number of important considerations.  It is important to take some time prior to shopping for your sleeping bag and consider your options and what is going to work best for your needs. If you find that you cannot afford what you need, consider online auctions, rummage sales, and gently used sleeping bags, that will be well-suited to your needs but not break the bank.

If you decide that you can afford the exact bag you need brand new, it is time to plan your sleeping bag shopping trip!  Instead of running all over town, compile a list of a few stores that sell bags.  If you know specifically what bag you want, you can call ahead, which is the same strategy as with a canteen.  It is probably better though to narrow your search to a few select bags.  This way, you can compare prices, customer service, and various other features.

The worst thing that can happen is if you have your heart set on a specific bag and you are unable to find it. Keep an open mind when shopping. It may very well turn out that once you begin looking around and speaking with the sales experts in the camping equipment field, they will have additional recommendations or information for you.  Keep in mind too, that you may get lucky and find something out of your price range, of a much higher quality, on sale.  If you have done your research, you will know a great bargain when you see one.

If you are lucky enough to find the bag that’s just right for you, in your price range, the only thing left to do is choose the small details. Things like color may not seem important, but if you do have options with color and pattern, choose something  you love. Hopefully you will get a high enough quality bag that will last a long time, and you want to always feel happy to use the bag.  There may be additional options as well, like water-proofing materials to make you bag more durable. Depending on the climate you plan to use your bag in, something like this could be a great investment.

Buying a sleeping bag can be a very frustrating, or very rewarding experience.  If you take some time beforehand, and make sure you are aware of what features you need, you will have little trouble finding a bag that is just right for you.
