The Many Uses Of Pocket Knives

Friday, October 3rd, 2008

Pocket knives are incredibly handy to have around. They can help in a variety of different situations around the home.  Lots of folks only consider them to be camping tools.  While it is true that they are invaluable on the camping front that’s not the only thing they’re good for. They’re good for many things around the house, such as opening mail, removing staples from documents and opening packages. They’re excellent for cutting up cardboard boxes before you dispose of them.

They’re also great for some home maintenance on the exterior of your home.  For example, a pocket knife can be used to repair handles on wooden household tools (like shovels and rakes) to prevent them from causing splinters.  They are also great for cleaning out dirty cracks and recesses your home may have that are difficult to get into.  Scarping away rust, paint, glue, or labels and adhesives is a breeze if you have a good quality pocket knife on hand.  Their uses are really endless and can easily make your life better every single day.

Using Pocket Knives In An Emergency

Wednesday, October 1st, 2008

A pocket knife is a great tool to have around in case of an emergency. There are all kinds of situations that can arise that are much easier handled with a pocket knife.  One example is in the event of a car crash.  If your passenger, or you yourself, are trapped in a seatbelt, a pocket knife is an invaluable tool that can be used to free the trapped person.  They can also be used to cut away clothing in the case that first aid needs to be done to a wound.

One use for pocket knives that one hopes they will never need it for is to use it to ward off a human or animal in the case of attack.  If you’re trapped in the wilderness, a pocket knife can be used to cut fruits and remove harmful thorns from different fruits.  In this case, you can also use your pocket knife as a flint to get a fire started to provide safety and warmth. Of course we all hope we will never be in these situations but having a pocket knife handy can be a literal life saver.

Pocket Knives Can Be A Necessity

Wednesday, September 24th, 2008

The need for a pocket knife depends on your type of job or your hobbies.  A computer programmer probably wouldn’t need a pocket knife, but it would be used by someone a construction worker.  There are many kinds of pocket knives for different uses.  Some have many tools built into them.  Tools can be things such as screw drivers, scissors, multiple knife blades, saw blades, or even a spoon.  These features may sound ridiculous to some, but can be helpful to others.

My grandfather’s favorite hobby was wood working.  He would construct anything in his workshop you could think of.  He even built a small rollercoaster for my brother and me when we were kids.  Ironically, the most important parts that couldn’t be done by a machine were done by his multi-purpose pocket knife.  He used the various knife blades to slice notches for corners, etc.  He would use it in more places then one.  It even came in handy for tightening a screw in my sunglasses.  This prevented one of the eye lenses from falling out.  A pocket knife can be such a necessity.
