In the following century, legislation was passed over a 100 times in response to various natural disasters.

With changing times, new technology like Internet is also being effectively used to empower the people themselves with comprehensive knowledge and guidelines for tackling emergencies. A case in point is the web site “Ready America”, which is based on the principle of Prepare, Plan, Stay Informed. This campaign was launched in the year 2003, and is a national public service advertising campaign to prepare for and respond to emergencies. The Ready campaign’s messages have been distributed through communication mediums such as: television, radio, print, outdoor and Internet public service advertisements (PSAs) developed and produced by the Advertising Council; brochures; www.ready.gov and www.listo.gov Web sites; toll-free phone lines 1-800-BE-READY and 1-888-SE-LISTO; and partnerships with several public and private sector organizations.
